AnimeNext was wonderful this year! I’m so glad I finally attend after being busy the past two years. I’m even more grateful that I have a wonderful boyfriend that’s willing to be the Howl to my Sophie! :3 See you in 2018, AnimeNext!

About the (possible) movie adaptation

hmcbook:

“Previously in 1994 a rumour circulated the press that the novel was being considered for a short film adaptation intended for television only, both Helena Bonham Carter and Kate Winslet being tipped for the role of Sophie Hatter.

The less obvious choice of Brett Anderson (singer/songwriter in the indie band Suede) was rumoured as playing the role of wizard Howl. It was argued that a more credible choice, such as Johnny Depp, would be more suitable, but as the film was to be a British, low-budget production this was not possible.

Anderson’s popularity in both Britain and Japan, coupled with his suave looks and style, made him a favourable contender. Sources close to him, however, claim he was reluctant as he insists his acting skills are limited and has even been quoted as saying “why is it assumed that musicians can make good actors” and stated that having to “act” in his own music promo videos caused him embarrassment.

Eventually the project was shelved due to having to shorten the story and concerns for the special effects that would be required. It was felt that the resources available at the time would not be worthy of the original novel and not do it justice.”

I remember reading this several years ago on Wikipedia. This part was later deleted though. I then found the same text from here. I wonder if it was deleted for the unconfirmed information, maybe? To be honest this still haunts me. Was that article true? If anyone has any information, tell me please, I’m dying to know!

And if they really intented to make that short film…. holy crap. I just hope they would “un-shelve” this project… and decide to do a whole movie… or a mini series… or a whole TV-show.

Warm-ups. Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones.

gooseweasel:

Editing screen caps from the movie Howl’s Moving Castle to make the colors more accurate to the book’s descriptions, because I miss Sophie’s red hair and Howl’s unsettling glass-green eyes. Plus quotes and stuff. One day, I’ll do this properly, and do accurate-to-the-book actual illustrations and story elements, but for now, we have photoshop.
